in a gilded moulding frame; late 19th century frame retains the original gilt surface with some chips to the surface and accumulated dirt taping on the reverse of the frame has been disturbed nails used to hold the canvas and stretcher in the frame are of recent manufacture canvas has not been re-lined retains the original wooden stretcher Verso: there is a diagonal repaired tear centre left approx 20cm in length patch lower centre approx 12x10cm two further small patches to the right and repaired pin hole top left some staining to the canvas on the reverse; recto: canvas is slightly ruckled in places with pronounced crazing and cracking to the paint surface with raised areas corresponding to the location of the patches on the reverse area of concentric crazing lower right corner Under inspection with uv lamp: has been re-varnished in recent years this varnish has been irregularly applied some cleaning of the varnish lower right corner and lower center; otherwise in good condition
