Immediately traceable to the manner of the & ldquo; tenebristi & rdquo; Venetians who around the half & agrave; of the seventeenth century variously experimented with themes and models by Giuseppe Ribera (to whom it is not by chance that our painting was referred to in the collection of provenance) the canvas offered here seems more like it; precisely attributable to Pietro Negri condiscepolo del & ldquo; tenebrista & rdquo; Antonio Zanchi in the Venetian workshop of Francesco Ruschi and documented with works dating from 1660 to 1679.
