SIGN UP or LOG IN
Markings:
The panel is flat, stable and consists of a single, unbeveled plank. The image reads very well beneath crisp, clear varnish with small details such as the lace collar retained. The vertical wood grain and the ground layer can be seen through the paint layer in the background, but this is expected in painting of this period and style, and there is no evidence of loss, abrasion, or lifting. Under UV inspection, small strokes of cosmetic retouching along the wood grain are visible throughout, more concentrated in the left half of the composition, and small dots and strokes of retouching are visible throughout the black dress. A line of repair about one inch long is visible at bottom center. The painting has been well restored and should hang in its present condition. Offered in a simply carved ebonized wood frame with oval inset.
Condition:
framed: 26 3/4 by 21 3/4 in.; 67.9 by 55.2 cm.
