Materials:

oil on canvas

Size Notes:

unframed: 125.5 x 102 cm.; 49½ x 40¼ in. The canvas is lined, and the paint surface is relatively dirty with a yellowed, matt and uneven varnish. There are a handful of small scratches in the paint surface, along the centre of the right margin and in the lower left corner. Old, discoloured retouchings are visible through the background and more sparsely scattered in her drapery. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms the aforementioned retouchings and further reveals more concentrated areas along the upper centre; in the tree trunk; and a few concentrated bands in the orange part of her drapery. Her flesh tones appear largely untouched save for a few fine retouchings along the network of craquelure in the right side of her hair, and very small retouchings in her proper right brow and eyelid. The painting would benefit from cleaning and is in overall good condition.
