Materials:

oil on canvas

Size Notes:

unframed: 75.6 x 63.1 cm.; 29¾ x 24? in. The canvas is lined, the paint surface is slightly dirty and the varnish is discoloured. There is a small loss in the centre of the right margin. Discoloured retouchings are easier to discern with the naked eye: to an area in the background, centre left; to parts of the cartouche, upper right; and in some fine lines of the sitter's face and chest. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals the opaque milky varnish, beneath which it is difficult to discern much of this intervention. The painting appears to be in overall fairly good condition. ?Please note that Condition 11 of the Conditions of Business for Buyers (Online Only) is not applicable to this lot.
