Original canvas. Under ultra-violet light there are some spots and fine lines of retouching visible, notably to the man's cap, jacket, apron and socks, and some further minor spots to the chair and background. Overall this work is in good condition. In its original frame and with the Richard Wurm, Munich stamp on the stretcher on the reverse. Richard Wurm was a prominent artists' material supplier in Munich in the 19th Century.
