( German, 1881 - 1948 )
Figure of a Dancer
Materials:
bronze with medium brown patina
Measurements:
27.64 in. (70.20 cm.) (height) by 10.00 in. (25.40 cm.) (width)
Markings:
Inscribed 'M. Steger' and 'Guss-Heinze' on base
Condition:
In generally fair to good overall condition; as seen in catalogue photo some generally minor surface imperfections/inconsistencies, the most prominent being an approx. 3 in x 1 in (at widest) darkened area at part of base, approx. 1 3/4 inches from figure's right foot. (One may surmise that this dark area may be the result of a foreign substance that has long ago caused oxidation/chemical reaction to the bronze). The base also has scattered marks/scratches/discolored areas. There are some scattered rubbed/small scratched areas to scattered parts of the figure with a lighter gold color revealed. There are very minor small copper-colored marks to part of back of figure's head.
Provenance:
Acquired 1929. The George D. Horst Collection of Fine Art.
