Edition:

The panel appears to be made of one board with a vertical grain. It is uncradled, has a faint vertical bow, and is stable. There is no beveling to the edges, and there is what appears to be a thin coating applied to certain areas of the reverse, possibly for support. The painted surface is is in good overall condition, and it presents a strong image. It has not been restored in some time, and the surface is somewhat dirty beneath a yellowed varnish. There are very fine pin dots of loss (2 in chin, 2 in hair), but these are in no way distracting. Inspection under UV reveals a thick and milky varnish. There are a few spots of retouching scattered in his face and hair (some of which have slightly discolored and are visible to the naked eye). Some additional small cosmetic spots are visible near the lower edge, in the background at right to address wood grain, and a spot in the background to the right of his collar. This painting is in overall good condition, but may benefit from a clean. Offered in a carved wood frame with some nicks and losses.
