Private collection, Rome, ,The present works can be compared to a similar composition sold at Finarte in 1991 (sale, 19th November 1991, lot 127; see G. Alberti, Inganni dipinti. Trompe-l’oeil nella Fototeca Zeri, Bologna 2015, pp. 103-111). In one of these two pictures there is part of a poem “Donna che si specchia” by Giovan Battista Marino (Mad. LXXIIII, 1604). The Greek inscription in the paintings refers to the signature on the pedestal of the Hellenistic sculpture by Agasias of Ephesus, ,once in the Borghese Collection in Rome (now Louvre, which was rediscovered in 1611.
