Markings:
The signature reads - Kano Hokkyo Tokuosai Fujiwara Toshinobu yukitoshi nanajusai hitsu - Painted by the esteemed painter of the Kano school, Fujiwara Toshinobu at 70 years of age. Other artworks Japanese public collections note the artist signing votive plaques (E-Ma) during the year Honei 7 (1710 - when he was 76 years old) putting this work at the year 1704 / 1705. Tomonobu was the 6th generation descendent of the master Kano Motonobu whom along with Kano Eitoku, established the Kano tradition of crane paintings.
Condition:
Front panels: - mirror repairs on all four panels. - right black markings on edge of second panel (2nd from left) and third panels on top 1/2 (possibly finger markings) - third panel from left: some small damage - paint missing - on bottom left hand side; Back panels: - Both left and right panels have residue marks of adhesive tape - mirror hair line cracks on wooden frame
