Markings:

Attributed to Jean-Baptiste van Loo

Condition:

The canvas is lined and stable on its stretcher. The portrait image reads very well beneath clear varnish with details in the costume retained. A one-inch vertical line of retouching in the sitter's hair is visible to the naked eye but not distracting. Under UV inspection, the varnish is milky but scattered retouching to the background is visible in the upper and center of the left side and the lower right part of the background. The painting can certainly hang in its present state. Offered in a decoratively carved giltwood frame. The lot is sold in the condition it is in at the time of sale.
