Markings:

1. 'Nr. 70 / Alter Yemenite' [old man in profile facing left]: This print is signed 'Lerski' in white ink on the image. The reverse is annotated in unidentified hands in pencil: 'Nr. 70 / Alter Yemenite'; 'II'; and '70.'

Condition:

This group of six gelatin silver prints, on double-weight paper with a smooth surface sheen, is in generally excellent condition. The photographs are trimmed to the image and there is edge and corner wear, not visible when viewing them framed. The reverse of each print is soiled, and some have mount or tape remnants. 1. 'Nr. 70 / Alter Yemenite' [old man in profile facing left]: This print is signed 'Lerski' in white ink on the image. The reverse is annotated in unidentified hands in pencil: 'Nr. 70 / Alter Yemenite'; 'II'; and '70.' 2. 'Jüden aus Buchara' [old woman]: This photograph is on Agfa-Lupex paper. The reverse has the photographer's Tel Aviv copyright/credit stamp, annotated in ink 'Zürich Plattenstr. 32'. Another Tel Aviv copyright credit stamp is crossed out. A typed label reads, '"Araber und Juden" / 1931-1935 / Jüden aus Buchara.' '84' is written in an unidentified hand three times (twice in ink and once in pencil). 3. 'Kleiner Yemenite' [young man]: This photograph is signed in Hebrew in ink on the image. The right and left edges are gently rippled. The reverse is annotated in an unidentified hand in ink 'Kleiner Yemenit [sic]'; and in pencil '369' [twice]. There is the photographer's Tel-Aviv copyright/credit stamp. 4. '333' [man in 3/4 profile facing right]: The lower left corner is noticably bumped. The reverse is annotated in an unidentified hand in pencil '333.' There is the photographer's Tel-Aviv copyright/credit stamp. 5. '96' [girl]: There is a 1/4-inch hairline scratch that appears to break the emulsion at the upper left corner, as well as a 1/4-inch horizontal tear at the lower left edge. The tip of the lower left corner is folded, and the lower right corner has two pin-point-sized losses. The reverse is annotated in an unidentified hand in pencil: '96' [twice]; 'II'; and 'X.' 6. '182' [man in profile facing left]: There is a 1/4-inch horizontal tear at the right edge. There is a sharp 1/4-inch linear crease that appears to break the emulsion at the lower right corner. There are two vertical creases at the upper edge that do not appear to break the emulsion. The reverse is annotated in an unidentified hand in pencil '182' [twice]. The photographer's copyright/credit stamps from both Tel-Aviv and Berlin are stamped on the reverse. The lot is sold in the condition it is in at the time of sale.
