(Probably) A Catalogue of my Lo[rd] Marquesses Pictures, Hamilton MS M4/21 (an inventory of six hundred painting packed in forty-four cases), undated but before 1643, as 'Kinge Henry 8th', in 'The thirty one case'. (Probably) Hamilton MS S6, an inventory of 1643-1649, 'in the closet', 'King Henry, the 8 picture'. (Probably) A List of His Grace's the Duke of Hamilton's pictures in the Abby of Holyrood House, taken this 5 day of October 1704, in the 'Great Dining Roome', 'square picture [no. 154] of King Henry 8th a halfe length by Holbin'. (Probably) the 4 September 1793 inventory of items at Holyroodhouse, no. 185, 'Henry the 8th' (in the First Picture Closet). (Probably) Historical & Descriptive Account of the Abbey and Palace of Holyroodhouse, Edinburgh, 1826, p. 33 'in the first flat of this suite of apartments, i.e. those containted in the ancient part of the palace, there are some good portraits.. Up stairs there are pictures of Jane Shore, Henry the Eighth, Queen Elizabeth..'. (Probably) R. McBean, Guide to the Palace and Abbey of Holyrood, with Catalogue of Portraits and Paintings, Edinburgh, 1860, p. 75, listed in Queen Mary's Bedroom, no. 159, 'Henry VIII'.

(Possibly) Archibald Douglas, 6th Earl of Angus (c. 1489-1557), husband of Margaret Tudor and brother-in-law of King Henry VIII, and by descent to William Douglas, 1st Marquess of Douglas, who married Anne, Duchess of Hamilton, and by descent; or. (Possibly) acquired by Sir James Hamilton, 1st Duke of Hamilton (1606-1649), first Hereditary Keeper of the Palace of Holyroodhouse, and by descent at Holyroodhouse, Edinburgh, and Hamilton Palace, South Lanarkshire, to. Angus Douglas-Hamilton, 15th Duke of Hamilton and 12th Duke of Brandon (1938-2010); Sotheby's, London, 30 June 2005, lot 5 (/P168,800). with Philip Mould Ltd., London, where acquired by the present owner.
