Edition:
This pair of paintings should be compared to the series of four interior and exterior genre scenes by Diziani, of slightly smaller dimensions (38 x 54 cm.), recorded in a private collection, Padua.1 These canvases are datable to circa 1750, as are several larger canvases of similar style and subject matter, such as the Scene in a tavern (71.5 x 94 cm.), recorded in the collection of M. Scaglia, Milan.2

Markings:
Both canvases are lined, with relatively clean paint surfaces and slightly discoloured varnishes. There are a few surface scuff marks in both and some minor frame abrasion along the right margin of the latter. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals an opaque varnish which makes it difficult to discern intervention. Only a few small and scattered spots are visible in both, as well as more concentrated retouching in the upper right corner of the former. The paintings appear in very good condition.
Condition:
each unframed: 45.9 x 58.7 cm.; 18? x 23? in.
