Markings:

The canvas has a firm lining, the paint surface is dirty and the varnish is uneven and discoloured. Much of the impasto paintwork still stands proud of the paint surface. Some areas of discoloured retouching are visible in the upper left corner of the painting, one measuring approx. 3 x 8 cm., two others each measuring 1 x 2 cm. Small, pinprick retouchings are found throughout the painting of the putto, and in a more concentrated area, lower right, approx. 8 x 3 cm., with further small retouchings scattered in the lower left and right corners, and in the centre of the carpets towards the top of the composition, approx. 2 x 4 cm. All of these fluoresce yellow under ultraviolet light. Elsewhere swathes of the varnish have been wiped away, such as in the upper right corner. The painting is in overall fair condition.
