Condition:

The canvas has been lined and is providing a strong and stable support to the paint surface. There is some rubbing to the very extreme framing edge below the figure group. There are remnants of craquelure visible upon close inspection and a slightly yellowed varnish layer. Examination under ultraviolet light reveals some infilling to craquelure and some surface abrasion, notably in the sky, to the lower left edge, and centre right and very fine flecks of retouching throughout the sky.
