City Art Museum, St. Louis, Missouri, "Society of Western Artists: Nineteenth Annual Exhibition," 1915. English immigrant, Dawson Dawson-Watson began living part-time in San Antonio, Texas in 1917 after teaching art in New York and Missouri for over a decade. Dawson-Watson officially settled in San Antonio in 1926 in order to compete in the Texas Wildflower Exhibition where he won the first national prize. He would continue to exhibit successfully in the North America as he previously did in Europe -- gathering accolades from the Royal Academy in London, 1886 and the Paris Salon, 1888 to the Southern Arts League, 1931 and Mississippi Art Association, 1930. However, it is his impressionist landscapes, particularly of Texas, that Dawson Dawson-Watson truly realized his art. With an atmospheric tone and colorful palette, these hazy renderings of nature soften the saturated colors innate in landscapes of West Texas and the Texas Hill Country.
