SIGN UP or LOG IN
Markings:
Property removed from Fenton House to be sold on behalf of the 7th Earl of Durham
Condition:
unframed: 122 x 184 cm.; 48 x 72? in. The canvas is lined and the paint surface is dirty with a discoloured varnish. There are surface scuff and scratch marks visible scattered in the composition. There is a small paint loss along the centre of the left margin and further losses where the retouched paint surface is flaking along the right of the lower margin. Retouchings are visible along all four margins. There are three repaired holes in the canvas (each approx. 2 x 2cm) in the upper background - one on the left of the sitter and two on the right. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals retouching to these damages but otherwise it is difficult to discern any intervention underneath the thick and opaque varnish. The painting would benefit from cleaning. ?Condition 11 of the Conditions of Business for Buyers (Online Only) is not applicable to this lot.
