Edition:

The canvas is thinly lined with canvas reinforcement strips at each edge. There is an undulation to the canvas, but it is otherwise stable on its stretcher. The overall images reads well on the wall, beneath a slightly dirty and somewhat discolored varnish. Some thinness is visible in spots throughout. There are tiny pin dots of loss in her cheek, and a small 1cm thin tear in the blue of her collar at lower right. There have been a few campaigns of restoration to this work, and some older scattered and more broadly applied restoration can be found throughout, particularly in the background above the figure and along the lower edge, and some of this is visible to the naked eye. Inspection under UV reveals more recent retouching in the outlines of the mouth, as well as in the shadows to the right of the neck. Offered in in a painted frame with a carved gilt inner liner.
