Condition:

The panel is marouflaged, flat and stable. The paint surface is relatively dirty, and the varnish slightly discoloured. The panel shows evidence of wear, and there are fine, superficial old, repaired splits running vertically from both upper and lower margins. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals retouching along all the aforementioned splits, and makes clear the substantial restoration to the Madonna's head and neck, and the head and body of the Christ child. Retouching is also visible throughout the sky, and through the blues of the Madonna's cloak. The landscape either side of the figures is better preserved, but not without some small areas of intervention.
