Measurements:
10.24 in. (26.00 cm.) (height) by 14.37 in. (36.50 cm.) (width)
Markings:

Provenance:
Painted circa 1950 Private collection Charleston's Fine Art Auctions, Perth, September 2006, lot 37 Private collection This work is likely to have been painted in the same decade that Namatjira travelled to Canberra to be presented to Queen Elizabeth II, such was the artist's acclaim since his first solo exhibition at the Atheneum Gallery, Melbourne in 1939. This is a fine example of one of Namatjira's later works which use light to create and diffuse three dimensionality. Namatjira accomplishes this effect through the formation of striated patterns which cascade down the ridges of the mountain and clump at peaks, offering an illusion of shadows.
