LOT DETAILS

Materials:

oil on panel

Size Notes:

oil on canvas, unframed The canvas is lined, the paint surface is clean and the varnish is clear and even. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals small, but fairly extensive retouchings through the sitter's face and hands, particularly in and around his left index finger, and through parts of his coat, most notably in the upper right part of his chest and in and around his left hand, where there are diagonal lines of retouching to scratches. There are also retouchings along the margins, most notably to two concentrated areas in the lower right corner, in the centres of the upper and lower margins, and in all four corners. The painting presents well in its current state, however, and is in overall fairly good condition. The lot is sold in the condition it is in at the time of sale. The condition report is provided to assist you with assessing the condition of the lot and is for guidance only. Any reference to condition in the condition report for the lot does not amount to a full description of condition. The images of the lot form part of the condition report for the lot.
