Condition:

Original canvas which is buckling slightly along the left edge. There is a small canvas patch and a small repair visible in the upper right quadrant as seen from the reverse. A tiny hole to the canvas is visible at the centre of the top edge. There is some scattered craquelure to the areas of impasto. There are a couple of flecks of associated paint loss to the red star of the budenovka of the boy to the left of Dzerzhinsky. Minor surface scratches and scuff marks can be seen in places. The surface is covered in a light layer of dirt. Inspection under UV light reveals retouching to the little boy on the left, to the boy with the head turned on the right, to the soldier sitting by the rail tracks, several small areas of retouching to the sky, one of which corresponds to the aforementioned canvas patch, and a small retouching to the building on the right corresponding to the aforementioned canvas repair. There is further minor scattered retouching elsewhere. Unframed.
