Provenance:

The Herrel George Thomas (d. 1957) and J. Stuart Halladay (d. 1951) collection, Sheffield, Massachusetts (amassed in the 1930s and 40s). Mrs. Albert N. Petterson (sister of Thomas), who sold the Thomas-Halladay collection to the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum, where most of it remains, though some non-American folk art paintings, like the present picture, were deaccessioned in 1958, while others went directly to Mrs. Petterson's daughter.
