PROVENANCEPrivate Collection, AsiaThe Aspiration Expressed in the Name of a FlowerAfter gaining widespread recognition of painting portrait, Chiu Ya-Tsai has continued creating nearly 20 works on landscape, flower and still life since 2005. The work, Flower, is one of the rare paintings of such theme. The picture focuses on a single sunflower that outshines others. Through a sharp contrast of colors and deft brushstrokes, a blooming flower is delicately depicted. The sense of the rhythm of petals which are seemingly rotating is reminiscent of the Sunflower of Van Gogh, expressive and full of vitality. The work represents a complete reversal of portraits with a cheerful and confident manner, vividly reflecting the artist’s life attitude and spirit.
