( Dutch, 16th C)
Virgin and child in a landscape
Materials:
oil on panel
Measurements:
16.54 in. (42.00 cm.) (height) by 12.99 in. (33.00 cm.) (width)
Condition:
The panel is flat, uncradled, and appears to be made of 1 board with no beveled edges. The painting has not been attended to in some time, and it appears to have a slightly yellowed varnish. There is prominent craquelure visible in the figures, and some details in the background have lost some definition. Some restoration is visible to the naked eye, for example a spot in the neck of the Madonna and some fine strokes to the body and the lower left of the Christ Child, though most of the scattered spots and areas of restoration appear to be concentrated in the background, foliage, and the sky. Inspection under UV reveals the aforementioned retouches, as well as some strokes in the globe and a few in the costume of the figures. Offered in a simply carved giltwood frame with a decorative beaded liner
