http://vsoho.nyc/home/portfolio/phyllis-krim/ She majored in advertising design and graphics at University of the Arts (known then as the Philadelphia Museum College of Art), graduating from that school and from the University of Pennsylvania School of Fine Arts with a B.A. degree. Subsequently she studied with Will Barnet at the Art Students’ League in New York. In 1962, she moved to Greenwich Village in New York City, where she resided for the rest of her life. Phyllis was an advertising designer, art director of a printing plant and involved in other design fields before deciding to concentrate on painting. After a short stint in graduate school at Kansas State University, where the painting studio overlooked the engineering department machinery, she began painting realist and hard-edge abstract machine paintings. These included engines and motorcycles, trains and, since 1973, classic automobiles. She was the first woman invited to be a member of the Automotive Fine Arts Society, which she joined in 1986. During her lifetime, Phyllis had over 50 exhibitions of her paintings, at venues including the Brooklyn Museum (invited by Louise Bourgeois), Fordham at Lincoln Center (with Alice Neel), Pebble Beach Coucours d’Elegance, 10 Downtown, I. Miller, the Phoenix Art Museum, the Palace of Fine Arts (San Francisco), the premier show of “L’Art et l’Automobile” at Chinetti Motors, Dorsky Gallery on 5th Ave., and Yves Arman Gallery on Madison Ave. Her work appears in corporate and other collections, and was featured in several magazines and newspapers, including Auto Week, Automotive Art Magazine and The Village Voice. Her cover design for the book Museums in New York (1967, by Fred McDarrah) was featured as the main exhibition in the lobby of the Whitney Museum.
