John Sanderson-Wells studied at the Slade School of Art, and the Academie Julian in Paris. He lived in London, exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1895, and was elected to the Royal Institute of Painters in Water-colours in 1903. He specialised in hunting scenes in both oil and watercolour, many of which became familiar to the public in the form of coloured prints.
