Joan Vilatobà is one of the major figures of Spanish photographic pictorialism. Though praised by critics and specialists, his work has gone largely unnoticed by the general public. This exhibition looks at a series of thirty pieces representative of his unique career. In the first twenty years of the last century, Vilatobà made his name as a photographer from the point of view both aesthetic and technical. He focussed on three major themes: figures, landscapes and composition, making widespread use of romantic, Symbolist scenes. He also produced portraits of contemporary musicians, artists and intellectuals. He was par- ticularly noted for his use of carbon printing, often applied to sizeable enlargements. The main body of his work was produced between 1902 and 1910.
