Fred Yates was born in Ardwick, Manchester. He painted full-time from 1969 and relocated to Fowey in Cornwall in 1980. His first solo exhibition was held at the Reynolds Gallery, Plymouth in 1976, followed by a second exhibition at the same gallery, 1980. He has exhibited at the Royal Academy and at John Moores Liverpool
