Born in Iraq in 1939, Dia Azzawi was awarded a bachelors degree of archeology and art at University and later at the Institute of fine art in Baghdad. He established in London in 1976. Painter, books artist and graphic artist, Azzawi has completed a multitude of original pieces. He has played a mayor role in the creation and diffusion of modern Arab graphic art in Europe, the Arab world and across America. His pieces are open to the constant construction of visual worlds that are both autonomous and parallel to those visualized by poets, he demonstrates expertise in occidental techniques both ancient and modern: engraving, lithography, serigraphy, and digital. He has had personal exhibitions of his paintings all over the world at galleries, museums, and centers for the arts, and is represented in both private and public collections internationally: British Museum, World Bank, Institut du Monde Arabe, French National Library, The Colas Foundation, the Ona Foundation, The Kinda Foundation, The Arab Museum of Art at Qatar and many more.
