Christian Curiel, a New York-based painter, was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico and received his MFA in painting from Yale University. Curiel’s paintings depict single moments of activity from childhood memories. The storytelling in his paintings works like a memory as the images are fragmented and constructed and viewers are allowed to re-live these moments themselves. At first glance, his paintings appear to be of normal and everyday events such as campfires, school recitals and playing dress-up but upon further inspection, often tragic and strange events emerge. Christian Curiel’s paintings have been exhibited in various solo and group exhibitions worldwide including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Washington, D.C. and Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain in Paris and his work is in many major public and private collections. Curiel is a member of FeCuOp, a collaborative based in Miami and is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the 2004 Robert Schoelkopf Traveling Fellowship from Yale University School of Art, and the Chestler Visual Arts Award.
