Carolyn Kriegman

(American , b. 1933 - 1999 )

The New Jersey-based jeweler Carolyn Kriegman (1933 - 1999) is best remembered for her skillful utilization of plastic as a signature medium. After studying with several noted artists, most notably Josef Albers at the Yale School of Fine Arts, Kriegman went on to have a long, productive career in the craft world. Her structured yet quirky neckpieces employ fringe, kinetic elements, and a touch of whimsy, successfully exploiting the interaction between color, transparency, and light in plastic. A National Merit Award-winner, her fine jewelry and plastic creations can be found in many permanent collections, including the Minnesota Museum of Art, the Renwick Gallery at the Smithsonian Museum of Art, as well as the Newark Museum of Art
