Lee Jin Yong (b.1961) lives and works in South Korea. He is a major artist in Korea and pioneers in development of Essentialism, which is one step further than Hyperrealism, by endlessly studying and understanding the theme of the works and extremely pursuing the essence of the subject. He is called Essentialist due to the unique technique of depicting the nonexistent object as if they exist. Therefore, the artist is freed from the preoccupation with painstakingly expressing the outer appearance of the object and at the same time has become able to fully focus on physically expressing the inner essence of the object.
