Condition:

framed: 92 by 169cm., 36¼ by 66½in. The stretcher is slightly warped. There is an area of loss (as is visible in the catalogue illustration) in the upper right quadrant of the work with other possible examples elsewhere. Three examples of small punctures in the canvas, within the lower center of the work (the largest is visible in the catalogue illustration). The paint surface has the artist's original unvarnished appearance. There is evidence of surface dirt and handling marks within the sky on the upper edge. There are a few localised areas of fine lines of craquelure, including small linear cracks on the back of the blue top of the figure in the lower left and to the wall in the upper right corner. Inspection under ultra violet light shows a few small retouchings near the lower right vertical edge, and a further small area of retouching on the blue top of the woman in the left of the composition. The painting has an uneven fluorescence which appears to be attributable to the artist's materials and techniques. The above excepting, the painting appears to be in good and stable condition.
