The painted surface is well preserved and the impasto mostly intact. Very close inspection of the left man shows one fine line of craquelure on the nose, one on the cheek and a very fine network of craquelure in the browns of his trousers. Further close inspection shows a circular network of craquelure on the vest of the right man, his left arm and in the browns of his trousers. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals small areas of retouching next to the left figure's nose and in the trousers of the right figure. A circular restoration of ca. 5 cm diameter is visible in the center chest of the right figure.
