Exhibited:

California Commission for the Golden Gate International Exposition, San Francisco, California. American Modernist Nathalie Newking trained initially with Robert Henri, and then following her marriage to painter Lorser Feitelson moved in a new direction artistically. During the 1920s, the couple settled in Paris and there developed a decorative figurative "neoclassical" style influenced by early Italian Renaissance masters. They exhibited regularly in New York at the Daniel Gallery before moving to California in 1927 when their daughter was born. When she and Feitelson split up, Nathalie Newking moved in a more sculptural direction with her art, which is apparent in the two works by her hand in the present auction dating to the later 1930s.

Private collection, New York; Private collection, Mesquite, Texas.
