Materials:

oil on canvas

Size Notes:

canvas: 20 by 26 in.; 50.8 by 66 cm.

Description:

or LOG IN

Markings:

Gaspard Dughet

Condition:

framed: 26 by 32½ in.; 66 by 82.6 cm. The canvas is lined and is stable on its stretcher. The landscape image reads well with some impasto in the trees retained. To the naked eye, frame abrasion is visible along the right edge but is not distracting, and a thin surface scratch measuring about 1 inch is at the center of the top edge. In raking light, the varnish appears streaky in areas but is not obvious in regular light. Under UV inspection, the varnish is milky but an older campaign of restoration is visible along the left edge in the majority of the tree trunk, as well as in the clouds in the sky and scattered spots in the background hills. A few more recent small retouches are visible such as at center. Offered in a simply carved giltwood frame with nicks and losses.
