oil on pine panel

Size Notes:

Please note, Condition 11 of the Conditions of Business for Buyers (Online Only) is not applicable to this lot.

Markings:

The painting is on a thick wooden panel made from three vertical planks joined by butterfly joints and held by two horizontal battens on the reverse. The panel is flat and stable. The paint surface is generally very well preserved with only a limited amount of abrasion to the surface. Under ultraviolet light inspection, limited scattered retouching is evident throughout the body of the figure of Saint John. There is also evidence of retouching along the vertical panel joint to the left of the figure. Overall, however, the painting is in very good condition for a picture of this age. Held in a modern plain wood frame.
