Edition:

Adam Pynacker was born in Schiedam in circa 1620, where he spent most of his life until moving to Amsterdam in 1661. Hailed as one of the most imaginative of the Dutch Italianate landscape painters, Pynacker is particularly known for his masterful depictions of sunlight. The present painting provides a wonderful example - rays of sunshine pierce through a small gap in the dense foliage just right of centre, to illuminate the cows' bodies in the foreground.

Condition:

The canvas is lined, the paint surface is clean, and the varnish is slightly discoloured and blanched in a few areas of more pronounced craquelure in the lower left quarter. There is a slight degree of wear, visible particularly in the darker areas of the painting. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals the rather opaque varnish, beneath which it is possible to see small retouchings scattered throughout with a slightly larger patch in the centre and upper margin, approx. 5 x 5 cm. The painting is in overall fairly good condition. The lot is sold in the condition it is in at the time of sale. The condition report is provided to assist you with assessing the condition of the lot and is for guidance only.
