Sipho Mpongo was born in the Eastern Cape and grew up in Langa. The mentorship programme Illiso Labantu started Mpongo on his photographic journey. Forming part of the new generation of upcoming South African photographers, he explores what the impact is, of the migrant labour system during the Apartheid years, on today's older male generation. Mpongo is very involved with communities and has exhibited Family Portraits with community activist India Baird as part of the 16 days of activism for No Violence Against Women.
