Jason Newsted is an American metal musician, known for playing bass guitar with the bands Metallica, Voivod and Flotsam and Jetsam. In 2006, he suffered a shoulder injury, during this time he was unable to play, and began to express himself through painting. He has become an accomplished modern artist. Newsted mixes soil from wherever he is painting into his acrylics, creating highly dramatic effect. His first gallery show opened on May 4, 2010 at Micaëla Gallery in San Francisco.
