Carlos Baca-Flor

(Peruvian , b. 1869 - 1941 )

Peruvian painter known for his superb portraits of such notables as Pius XII and Douglas Hyde. He won the 1907 annual salon of French artists and had his work showcased at the Salon of Honor. He was an art prodigy who attended the Academia de Artes de Santiago at a young age. He was awarded the gold medal for painting, sculpture, and drawing each year of his education. He won first place in the annual salon of French artists in 1907. His family moved to Santiago, Chile, when he was a only one. His parents encouraged the development of his artistic talents. His father died when he was 13.
