Atta Kwami is one of Ghana's more well-known artists. He was born in Accra, but has lived for decades in Kumasi, Ghana's second major city. For twenty years he taught painting and printmaking in Kumasi as Senior Lecturer at the College of Art, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. In 2007, he completed his Ph.D. in art history at the Open University. In 2010, he served as an artist-in-residence at the National Museum of African Art as a recipient of a Philip L. Ravenhill fellowship offered by UCLA. Atta Kwami has enjoyed exhibitions and visiting lectureships and residencies in many cities in Africa, Europe and the United States
